Lago weekend

I spent two great days with Oli and Luis at Lake Garda. We had one perfect morning session in Al Pra. The spot was really crowded, the chop was huge but the sun was shining and the wind blowing. The lake can get packed in summer and afternoon winds are often crap. But I really like it in the off season. Adding to the lake's attractiveness is the Italian lifestyle with its haute cuisine and laid back flair.

The following video is the first part of a series of short clips showing some short trips to popular windsurf locations. Lake Garda in Northern Italy is still one of Europe's most popular windsurf destinations. This video shows a two-hour session I had one Saturday morning. Riding on a Flooded Field

Thomas and Gabriel, two fellow windsurfers from Rostock, convinced me to go windsurfing today. I wasn't really motivated as I wanted to study after yesterday's session. Forecast was for about 16 knots pretty much directly from the north. We headed to Roggow, a spot at the Salzhaff, which is a Baltic Sea inlet. Already on the way to the spot, we noticed that many fields were flooded and that this provided perfect flat water. In the beginning we were only joking about sailing on a puddle just in front of Ikea. But when we finally arrived at the spot, we actually noticed that the whole field behind the beach was completely flooded. Unlike the main spot, this patch of water offered perfectly flat conditions. After testing out the depth of the water, we finally gave it a shot. Unfortunately, the wind was not very strong and quite gusty, too. The 4.6 Sailloft Quad proved to be the right choice as it gives you loads of power, even in the lulls. Luckily, the farmer didn't show up.

Reality without a filter

Every person who follows a certain goal knows that doing things to achieve that goal on a regular basis brings progress and finally success.  With windsurfing it can be quite hard to stay focused and motivated because in order to practise you need wind and the right temperatures. You need the right spot for the right wind direction and conditions are always different, which makes it a very challenging yet amazingly rewarding sport.  So today was one of those days where you might have wanted to skip "training". It was raining, it has already become a lot colder than before (around 14/13 degrees) and the wind was super light and gusty. We decided to sail on the river because the wind direction was south. The good thing: I could launch from where I live without taking the car.  My friend launched 4 kilometers downwind though and I wanted to go there.
